Getting ready…

Almost have everything packed up for Thursday morning. Laptop… Notebook… Kindle… Yep, those are the important things.

There at KU Med, the color of your footsies let the nurses know if you can take yourself to the bathroom or not. Yellow is “no”, and I forget the other color because, well, I never get it. I’m bringing my own color: blue. I wonder if that will have any significance other than a laugh and a nurse taking them off my feet to put the yellow ones on?

Got all my zip-up hoodies all washed and ready to go. Can’t wear any regular shirts with wires out your head, so….

You have to be kidding me….

This morning I got the official call from the surgeon’s office to confirm that I will be coming in tomorrow morning for my pre-op.

“Darren, we have you down for your 8:30 tomorrow morning for pre-op of the surgery next Thursday.”

“Yep. I’ll be there.”

“One more thing: the surgeon has requested that you come in at an earlier time so you can have a MRI before the surgery. So, instead of coming in at 9:00 and the surgery at 11:00, you will need to come in earlier.”

Do you know how many MRI’s I’ve had over the last year? Do you really think there’s been any difference at all between them? I’m thinking that they just accidentally delete them over and over again and I just have to keep going back and replacing them.

In fact, I just had a MRI a couple weeks ago….

The Date for the Next Surgery.

We just got “the call” from the hospital and they told us the surgery will be Thursday, January 23rd. Two weeks from today. Now that we know when that is, I need to get myself ready. I think I’ll be better this time around than the last. I have a bit more of an idea of what to expect this time around.

Curious as to how this/these cuts will come out since I can still feel the “dents” in my skull on the top of my head from the last surgery.

Doctors Appointment

I saw my Neurologist today. I had actually publicized that the appointment was supposed to be on Thursday. But, whatever. Saw the doctor, and I got to see images of my brain from the MRI scan on Monday. Interesting. I’ve seen such images of my brain before, but the doctor wanted to make sure there wasn’t any shown damage of my pulling the cables from my head while I was in the hospital before. Luckily, there was not any damage shown.

First of all, there is another patient that is “in line” before me. So, I can’t just hop in tomorrow and get this done. On the 20th, the surgeon is out of town and will be back on the 23rd. So, the surgery will either be on the 23rd, 24th or 27th. We are waiting till next week on either Tuesday or Thursday to get a call with a decision of the best date to go forward with the surgery. The Neurologist is also leaving to go to Turkey on Valentines Day, so he wants to make sure I get in and out before he leaves.
