Therapist Again Friday Morning…

Last Friday, I went back to see the Therapist in the morning at 9:00. There is the difference. I can actually intelligently answer these questions in the morning.

“THE ANSWERS HAVE COME TO MIND!”

Anyway, I think I was doing extremely better than I ever have recently. Powers that can easily be shown off in the morning. Well, that is the “powers” I have for about an hour or less. When that runs out, my body and brain are going “quickly downhill”.

Caffeine seems about the easiest, quickest and best that I tried so far. Now… the thing with it is that my body does not seem to be totally interested in it. I don’t know. I got a 20oz Diet Mt. Dew right next to me that I’m sipping on. Before the surgery, I used chug these quite a bit. Now, I’m barely sipping it. This is what I do now:

  1. Sip it for awhile because I’m VERY TIRED
  2. Soon, feel the WIDE AWAKENING
  3. Hour later (or less) I’m VERY TIRED

That was funny: My eyes were really open from the caffeine, but still yawning. That was a new one! ha ha!

Could it be because there was a Bonnie Tyler song I was hearing on this Florida radio station through my phone??? Maybe..  🙂

Last Physical Therapy

Wednesday was a last day for the physical therapy. Did all the same stuff. Biking for a good 5 minutes… Throwing and catching a very large ball with the lady… Played with very hard Play-Doh type material (and other things) to strengthen my fingers… This is mainly just what I do every week. Now it’s over with it. Someone decided that I don’t need physical therapy anymore, or something like that. Welp, okay.

The speech therapy was a bit tough compared with what we have been doing in the past. Or maybe it was just because it was using “different” ways of doing stuff that I haven’t used before here. I’m not sure.

Therapist: “Ok, I’m going to start by reading two words and you repeat the first one. Then I’ll say another, and you repeat the one that came before it. Got it?”

Me: “Got it.”

Therapist: “Red…  House…”

Me: “Red.”

Therapist: “Goose.”

Me: “House.” (Now, what I’m thinking… “Red Houses are nice looking…”)

Therapist: “Truck.”

Me: “mmmmm…. uhhhh… I don’t know….”

We’d try this again and I’d force myself to think more about just the words in the order and nothing else. Had a couple tries to do it right, but finally got it.

Repeating these words and such are not the easiest thing for me to do.

Two Therapists…

On Friday I had a schedule for two therapists. A Physical one for about an hour and then a Speech & Language one right after that. Did my usual type of physical therapy that I’ve done with the first one. Just doing some different things here and there in the room that we were both in. Tossed or bounced a large ball back and forth for awhile among other things I did during the time I was there with her. After I was done, I went back to the waiting room.

The Speech & Language therapist, a couple minutes later, showed up and brought us to a separate room from the work-out room where the physical therapist & I were. This is where we always go. We started by having me show off my crossword puzzles I had worked on from last week that she had given me to work on. Couldn’t look up the answers in anything, just in my mind… It was two crossword puzzles on two papers to do. Not the MOST complicated things in the world, just taking time. Did I finish them in two days like I thought I would and not did them earlier? No. There was just two or four words that I had unfinished on each page. Not a bad figure if I’m doing these straight out of my head being all screwed up right now. <grin> Need to finish them now. I was also given two more papers to do for next weekend. Don’t know what those are. Not supposed to look until I start. Eh, okay.

Saturday – Rehabilitation (by Sherry)

The nurse got Daren up early. He didn’t like that and doesn’t like that nurse now. He headed to the dining room and no one was there. He was very upset!

Darren rode the bike in the Physical Therapy room. He also walked up and down the hallway.

Darren took apart the chair alarm, and hid it in his dresser. The nurse noticed his alarm was missing a piece, and found another one to replace it. He placed his computer bag on it, instead (next to his chair) so he is refusing to use his chair alarm. He has not taken apart his bed alarm yet, but I suspect he will do that soon.  I am going to speak to the social worker on Monday to figure out why he has an alarm 24/7.  His walking is improving so well!!! He really is trying in the Physical Therapy and Occupational Therapy department. He really dislikes his Speech Therapy.

Darren’s cousins came to visit, and got there a little before we did. His cousins brought him Oreos (apparently he asked them to bring him some). We had Darren show us the Physical Therapy room and the dining room. While we were there, he had other relatives call and talk with him.

Darren was wiped out after all the excitement of the day. His cousins went home and we were just sitting quietly watching “Storage Wars” and this is what I saw:

He was so tired from all the excitement and action. I quietly put away his new sweatpants and shirts. He has decided he isn’t ready to wear his jeans yet. He has some in his dresser- but asked me to get him some sweats.

He woke up a bit before his supper of corn dog and fries and vegetable salad. He actually refused to eat his lunch (it isn’t his Momma’s Sloppy Joes) so I hope he ate dinner.

NOTE: He is still wearing the hat that his mom bought him too!!!

Darren was feeling a bit down today. He does not remember his surgeries. He is frustrated with the fact he is not at home. Please send him emails and messages on his facebook to cheer him!!! If you would like to send a card- please message me and I will send you our address so I can take them to him. We visit every day.

THANKS EVERYONE!!!!
